📌 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Candidate must be a citizen of India.

Age Limit

The standard age limit for most non-executive posts is 18 to 28 years. Age relaxations are provided for reserved categories: 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates.

Educational Qualification

The required qualifications are specific to each post:

  • Junior Engineer (JE): A three-year engineering diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Electrical, Electronics, Civil).
  • Maintainer: An ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certificate in a specific trade like Electrician or Electronic Mechanic.
  • Station Controller/Train Operator (SC/TO): A three-year engineering diploma in Electrical or Electronics, or a B.Sc. with Physics and Mathematics.
  • Assistant Manager (AM): A B.E./B.Tech degree with a minimum of 60% marks and often a valid GATE score. For some non-technical roles, a two-year full-time MBA is also a valid qualification.

✍️ Exam Syllabus & Pattern

The DMRC recruitment exam for most positions consists of two papers, Paper I and Paper II, held on the same day. Both papers have negative marking of 1/3rd of the allotted marks for every wrong answer.

Paper I (90 minutes, 120 questions)

This paper is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) covering general aptitude and technical knowledge.

  • General Awareness: Questions on Indian history, geography, polity, economy, general science, and current affairs.
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: Topics like analogies, coding-decoding, logical reasoning, puzzles, and series.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Includes the number system, fractions, percentages, profit and loss, time and distance, and data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of your Discipline/Trade: This section tests core concepts from the candidate's specific engineering discipline (e.g., Civil, Electrical) or ITI trade.

Paper II (45 minutes, 60 questions)

This paper is a CBT that tests General English proficiency. The syllabus includes:

  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Sentence structure
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • Reading Comprehension
