NCC Special Entry Scheme — Eligibility, Syllabus & Exam Pattern

The NCC Special Entry Scheme is a unique opportunity for NCC 'C' Certificate holders to join the Indian Army as commissioned officers without a written examination. This direct entry scheme shortlists candidates based on their NCC service and academic performance, calling them directly for the Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview. The process is designed to select individuals who have already demonstrated leadership potential and discipline through their NCC training.

📌 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin from specified countries.

Age Limit & Marital Status

  • Age: 19 to 25 years.
  • Marital Status: Candidates must be unmarried.

Educational Qualification

  • A degree from a recognized university with an aggregate of a minimum of 50% marks.
  • Final-year students are also eligible to apply, provided they have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the first two/three years of their degree.

NCC Service

  • Should have served for a minimum of two or three years (as per the specific notification) in the Senior Division/Wing of NCC.
  • Must have obtained a minimum of a 'B' Grade in the 'C' Certificate Examination of NCC.

✍️ Selection Process & Syllabus

No Written Examination

The most important feature of the NCC Special Entry is that there is no written examination. Candidates are shortlisted based on their applications and called directly for the SSB Interview. Therefore, there is no prescribed syllabus to study.

Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview

This is a comprehensive five-day personality and intelligence test designed to assess a candidate's suitability to be an officer.

  • Stage I (Screening):
    • Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test: Verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests.
    • Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP & DT): Candidates write a story based on a picture and then discuss it in a group.
  • Stage II (Testing):

    This stage lasts for the remaining four days and is for candidates who clear Stage I.

    • Psychological Tests: Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT), and Self Description Test (SD).
    • Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks: Includes group discussions, group planning exercises, and command tasks.
    • Personal Interview: A detailed one-on-one interview with a senior officer.

  • Candidates who are recommended by the SSB undergo a thorough Medical Examination.
  • The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained by the candidate in the SSB Interview only.
